SERCE

Along the peninsula, in southeast, there is the bay Serce — one of the biggest bays, «hidden» by steep rocks. Here George Bass has got a shipwreck, and now his artifacts are displayed in the Museum of Underwater Archeology, in the castle of Bodrum.

BAY OF HISARONU

Entering in the Bay of Hisaronu, a sailor has a wide choice of picturesque yacht’s berths. Keci Buku is one of the most comfortable and beautiful berths; piny mountainsides surround it. There is a small island there, with a ruin of Byzantine church.

Knidos 36°41 N 27°23 E

Ruins of Knidos are dispersed in the mountains under an ancient port, where you can take a berth. These ruins are of great value, as masterpiece of art. Only small part of ruins is excavated, so you can enjoy primitive sight. Huge blocks of rocks are very impressive.

It was one of 6 cities of confederation of Dorian — Dorian hexapolis. Good geographical position helped to develop commerce and attracted a lot of boats to this port.

Knidos is known for 2 great things: the statue of Aphrodite and scientist Eudoksos.

Statue of Aphrodite was made by Praxiteles (one of the greatest Greek master of sculpture). In 4^th century before A.M. this statue was one of the first statues of a nude woman (before they made only male nude statues). According to the legend, sexy Aphrodite was a talisman of fortune for sailors. It always attracts crowds of tourists even nowadays.

Scientist Eudoksos Knidos (4^th century before A.D) was astronomer and mathematician. He`s considered to be a «father» of Greek geometry. He has founded an observatory in Knidos.

One more famous person was born here in Knidos — architect Sostratus (the one, that has worked up a Lighthouse Pharos in Alexandria — it`s one of 7^th wonders of the world).
